Was Jesus a real historical figure?

Most historians agree that Jesus of Nazareth existed, though supernatural aspects of his life remain faith-based. Scholars widely accept that Jesus was a real person who lived in the 1st century CE in Judea (modern-day Israel and Palestine). Historical sources, including Roman and Jewish writings, mention a man named Jesus, who was a teacher, gathered followers, and was crucified under Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor.

Documents like the writings of Josephus (a Jewish historian) and Tacitus (a Roman historian), written within a century of Jesus’ life, reference his existence. The New Testament also provides detailed accounts, though it is primarily a religious text rather than a purely historical record.

While historians agree that Jesus likely existed, the miracles and divine claims attributed to him are matters of faith rather than historical evidence. Different religious groups have varying beliefs about his nature, but his influence on history, culture, and religion is undeniable.
